Thanksgiving Greetings!

Hello Everyone,

Happy Thanksgiving wishes to all of you. However you are celebrating this year, may everyone stay safe and well. It will be a different holiday, however we still have family, friends and Webster Lake to be thankful for.

I have a couple updates. We have received the bid proposal for the mitigation of milfoil in Chance Pond. We won’t know what our share of the cost will be until late December. DES is reviewing all bids and determining grant funds that will be available. I will keep you posted. There were a couple comments made to me about treating Chance Pond now when the water is so low. I asked Amy Smagula at DES and she responded that results were not good when done with low water levels. The plants slow down their productivity in the Fall/Winter. The herbicides used to treat the milfoil are formulated to work in normal water levels and when the plants are active. That is the short science answer:)

A couple people also commented that the low water level would be great for dredging the boat launch. I really wish I could say it was as easy as calling someone and saying come dredge the area. After multiple requests to the City Manager this Fall to move forward on this project, I have received the go ahead for the WLA to pursue the permitting process. Maybe we can make some progress on this project. Again I will keep you informed.

Thank you to all of you who have paid dues and made extra donations to the WLA. We have also received many donations in memory of Bob and Joan Hinds and Morris Salame. These donations have been a nice tribute to three long time Webster Lakers. WLA calendars continue to be ordered. Thank you to all those who have supported this fundraiser. They can be found here.

I am thankful for all of your support and kind words,

Val
