Members of the Webster Lake Association-NH – (we have added the “NH” because there is also a WLA in MA!)
We are almost officially in summer, and it certainly feels like it! The weather is warm today, and the lake is at “full pond” status.
Items for your information-
- There is a scholarship founded by longtime Webster Lake residents and friends that helps keep our waters clean. The following from the Plymouth State Facebook page describes the scholarship-
This year’s Marrapese “Keep NH Lakes Clear” Scholarship is supporting a student whose work is already making an impact locally at Webster Lake.
This Environmental Science & Policy student is researching cyanobacteria blooms affecting New Hampshire’s lakes—helping protect the health of our ecosystems and communities.
“It was exciting to get to do science and develop research on a topic that directly impacts not only myself as a NH resident, but also the well-being of NH’s lakes and ecology. This opportunity makes all the difference for a college student like me.” – 2026 Scholarship Recipient
For anyone who’d like to make a gift to support this scholarship started by John and Martha Marrapese, please direct them to this link. Once there, type in “Keep NH Lakes Clean Scholarship” in the “Designation” box and complete the rest of the form. It’s mobile friendly and super easy. If you know a suitable candidate to receive the scholarship, contact Plymouth State University. - Linda Stronge, our coordinator of the Lake Host program for Webster Lake reports-
Spiny flea has been detected in New Found Lake. There is no remediation at this time. It is spotted by running your hand along a boat and it feels like sand paper…looks gummy on fishing lines. Our lake hosts will be vigilant especially when a boat has previously been in a lake where spiny flea has been detected Please be alert to this invasive pest, and report citings to the lake hosts or the DES in Concord.
More information to come soon on the July 4th Festivities!
Cheers,
