Fall Hello!

The colorful leaves make a beautiful backdrop on the lake, especially with the sun glistening on the water. I hope you are enjoying Fall days and foliage wherever you are. Boats and docks are disappearing and cottages have been closed up. I want to remind everyone to secure your properties and belongings as you leave. Unfortunately I have been made aware of numerous property violations along Webster Avenue. Garages and porches have been broken into and nicely stacked and cut wood has been taken from a yard. It makes me sad to think that our lake haven is not immune to these types of incidents. Those of us who remain throughout the year try to keep an eye on things, but we don’t see everything. Do your best to make things secure.

The Fall newsletter is at the printer. Hopefully it will arrive in your mailboxes within the next 2 weeks. I would like to give a special thank you to Bill Cain, Taffy Johnson, Linda Johnson, Gina Murphy and Mark Lorenze who contributed articles for this newsletter. Due to spacing confinements, Gina’s article will appear in the Spring newsletter. They are all very informative and interesting articles. If you have not paid your dues this year, you may find a reminder letter in the newsletter. We thank everyone who has paid their dues and made an additional donation to the WLA. This year more than ever your dues is most appreciated to help us protect and preserve our precious lake. I received our latest water testing results and we appear to be holding our own. One of the numbers we look at measures Total Phosphorus. All tests this summer reported that number to be in the low category. Let’s continue to be aware of nutrient loading, which can influence this number.

As many of you are aware, Bob and Joan Hinds passed away in late September. The family requested donations be made to the WLA in their memory. We have received numerous donations from their many friends. What a tribute to Bob and Joan. They loved the lake dearly and spent many wonderful years here. Bob was a past president of the WLA. We thank the family for naming the WLA as a recipient of these donations.

Sales of the WLA Fundraising calendar have been brisk. Thank you to everyone who has purchased a calendar. Remember these are great holiday gift ideas and a great keepsake to look at some beautiful scenery around the lake all year round.

One last reminder, if your septic system needs pumping, Rowells Services are doing Webster Lake Days. On Oct 16th and 19th they are offering a discount for pumping of systems. If you give them a call, mention Webster Lake Days.

Enjoy the Fall and stay safe,

Val
