Summer Countdown!

Hi Everyone,
Docks are being put in and boats are being launched. The countdown to the unofficial start of summer has begun. Memorial Day will be here before we know it!
Speaking of boats being launched, I would be curious to hear from anyone who launches their boats and finds it a bit easier this season after the area was dredged
The WLA turns 50 this year and the 50th Anniversary committee has been hard at work planning events. In the Spring edition of the WLA newsletter you will find a schedule of events. The newsletter has gone to print and hopefully will be in your mailboxes in a couple weeks. There will be a BBQ dinner on Saturday, August 17th. Tickets are going fast so don’t wait to purchase yours. Electronic flares and Webster Lake cups will be sold at Griffin and Lagace Beach on Saturday, May 25th from 8:00am – Noon. There will be prizes for the boat parade this year. If you want to be eligible for a prize, you need to register for the parade. There is no fee, just register so everyone will be able to vote for their favorite boat on the website. For lots more information go to http://www.wla50th.com or Home – Webster Lake Association. Thank you to the committee for all their hard work organizing a special celebration
We are hoping to have Lake Hosts again this summer inspecting boats as they enter the lake at the boat launch. The lake hosts look for any unwanted invasive species on boats. We are hoping to have Hosts at the launch each weekend starting Memorial Day thru Labor Day. It is always nice to have some volunteer back up in case something comes up that a Host can’t make it. Deb Steadman has retired from being our Lake Host Coordinator. Deb did a great job for many years in this position. Thank you Deb.  Many thanks to Linda Stronge for volunteering to take over as our Lake Host Coordinator this season. If you are interested in becoming a Lake Host volunteer, please contact her at lhstronge@comcast.net.
The lake cam on the Webster Lake website has been down for a few weeks.  The camera ran its course and Mark Field has been working with vendors to obtain a new camera and tech support to get it working. As of yesterday, the camera is up and running again and you can now see live pictures again when you are away from the lake by going to the Webster lake website. Click on the Live Cam button. Thank you Mark for your time and patience to get a live feed available again.
Bruce Browne told me the Little Free Library on Lake Shore Drive is now open. Thank you Bruce. Our other two libraries on Webster Ave and Griffin Beach will be open by June 15th. Thank you Linda Stronge for keeping these supplied.
Kim Bonin has coordinated WLA Clean Up Days in the past, however she is unable to continue to do this. A possible date could be Sunday, May 26th. If you are interested in cleaning up Lake Shore Drive, Log Cabin Rd, Webster Ave or Pine Colony Rd, please contact me.  We would be scheduling just two hours from 10:00-Noon. Another option is to just have “Clean Up Ambassadors” for each area around the lake and the clean up can be done at your leisure. Let me know your thoughts.
As you return to the lake, don’t forget if you see a special scene that captures the beauty of our lake, get your camera out. We will once again be doing the WLA Photo calendar. Keep the camera ready all summer as you have until Labor Day to submit your photo. Photos can be submitted to Nancy Wolcott at nancy.wolcott.47@gmail.com.
Looking forward to the lake coming alive!
Take care,

Val
