Holiday Thoughts

Hi Everyone,

What great weather to begin the official start of summer this weekend! Hope everyone had a great time on the lake and that the Fathers had a wonderful day yesterday!

There are some holiday reminders that need to be shared. The WLA Boat Parade will be Sunday, July 4th at 2:30pm. There is no specific theme this year. Just use your great imaginations! This is a great year to celebrate our country, being together with loved ones again and lives being more normal. Boats will gather at Griffin Beach in time to start the parade at 2:30pm. We will head in a counterclockwise direction this year. If anyone has any speakers that they can play patriotic or party music from their boats that would add to the festive event. We also invite those who remain on shore to decorate their areas and play music as well. This is the 47th year of this fun tradition!

The WLA used to sell flares so that the shoreline could be lit up on the evening of July 4th. The WLA board decided to stop selling those original flares due to the contents being detrimental to the lake. Last year some residents wanted to bring back this tradition. It is a great idea, but we need to keep the health of the lake in mind. Please refrain from lighting one time use flares. The WLA board members agreed to suggest some alternative ways to have the shoreline lit. There are reusable flares that could be used or luminaries are another suggestion. I am including links for these options to purchase. If you choose to participate, the lights should be lit at 9:00pm.

The WLA reminds everyone that the discharging of fireworks into the lake is highly discouraged. Fireworks contain pollutants that can be harmful to the lake. Our mission is to preserve and protect our lake. Please also consider the affects fireworks have on the lake wildlife, pets and small children. The City of Franklin also has a noise ordinance where fireworks should not be discharged after 9:30pm. Please celebrate responsibly.

Our Lake Host, Sarah, has been on duty the past 2 weekends and is doing a fantastic job. She is very personable and responsible about her duties. She has been very busy with many boats using the launch. Please feel free to say hello to her and thank her for being here. It is an important job to check boats for and educate boaters about invasive species.

Chance Pond was treated last Thursday with the herbicide Procellacor by SOLitude Lake Management Company. You may have seen posters around the area. There was a follow up test done on Friday for any residual herbicide in the water and another test to be done today or tomorrow. A post survey of the pond will be done by Amy Smagula at DES in 3-4 weeks, then SOLitude will be back in August to do their post survey.

Remember the WLA photo calendar will need photos for our 2022 publication. Keep your cameras ready to capture your favorite Webster Lake moment. We try to capture the beauty of the lake year round. Please send your photo to nancy.wolcott.47@gmail.com.The photos should be at least 1MB in size.

Finally, we have received dues from 53% of our WLA membership list. To those of you who have paid dues and made additional donations, I sincerely thank you. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Enjoy a safe and wonderful summer,
Val
